How much off-grid desert living experience do I have? Almost none. Yup and that’s the scary part! Most of my life I’ve had a family vegetable garden. Growing just enough for the family and to share with friends. Any excuse for a get-together and I cook enough for an army is super fun! As for constructing buildings, my Dad was a bricklaye
How much off-grid desert living experience do I have? Almost none. Yup and that’s the scary part! Most of my life I’ve had a family vegetable garden. Growing just enough for the family and to share with friends. Any excuse for a get-together and I cook enough for an army is super fun! As for constructing buildings, my Dad was a bricklayer, uncles and cousins the same or construction contractors. So I’ve been around construction but done not much myself. Building and finishing the tiny houses will be a new and happy experience. Sadly, my Dad and most of the tradesmen in the family have passed on so YouTube and books have become my mentors. I can yield a rock hammer with the best of them. Rockhounding and gold panning and photography are passions of mine. Although I haven’t done much photography since the children grew up. I can yield a rock hammer with the best of them. Rockhounding and gold panning and photography are passions of mine. Although I haven’t done much photography since the children grew up. Cooking and vegetable gardening are my loves. Spring and Fall comes around and if I don’t get my hands in the dirt and grow something I feel like I will die. It’s like an addiction. When I go rock hunting it’s like I can feel again. It’s probably a grounding thing. Then there is the knowledge that I have enough food on hand to feed people when the zombiepocalypse comes, or if someone is in need. Canning and preserving foods is something I’ve recently added to my skills. I envision a pantry filled with jars of canned veg, fruits, jams and jellies, and dehydrated herbs and spices. All grown in my own garden.

One thing I have learned in life is that a college degree doesn’t mean a whole lot. Yes it is important if one's life goals require a higher education. One thing I have learned in life is that a college degree doesn’t mean a whole lot. Yes it is important if one's life goals require a higher education. In my opinion the most important thing when it comes to education is to use whatever education everyday life has provided. Learn from your mistakes and use that knowledge to help others avoid making the same mistakes or to learn from and move past their mistakes.
As for myself, I am the first in my family to earn a college degree. Granted it is just an Associates in Science with a major in geology and it took years of taking classes around working and raising a family but I did it. Now that I am mostly retired I look forward to moving to DesertRestNV and becoming A Lady In The Desert living off-grid in a tiny house. Growing and preserving vegetables and raising chickens.
